Auteur, traducteur, joueur, Jérôme Maufras est un passionné du jeu d'échecs et de son Histoire : ancien membre du Bureau fédéral de la FFE en charge du développement du jeu d'échecs à l'école, il continue d'en faire la promotion. Il est notamment en charge d'un ambitieux plan de développement du jeu d'échecs dans la ville de Bondy en banlieue parisienne et du plan de développement du jeu d'échecs à l'école dans l'Académie de Créteil. Il est en outre expert auprès de la commission scolaire de l'ECU.
