21/02/2023 – Lorsque Wadim Rosenstein a réalisé son rêve d'enfant en réunissant un plateau de classe mondiale dans sa ville natale pour son WR Chess Masters, il n'avait pas du tout pensé aux connotations politiques. Il voulait simplement amener les échecs de haut niveau sur les rives du Rhin à Düsseldorf, et Ian Nepomniachtchi et Andrey Esipenko en faisaient partie en tant que GMs de classe mondiale. Les joueurs d'échecs russes ne sont d'ailleurs pas sanctionnés par la FIDE. Des questions critiques ont néanmoins été posées.
