27/11/2025 – Du 31 octobre au 27 novembre 2025, les plages ensoleillées de Goa, en Inde, ont accueilli la Coupe du Monde FIDE d'échecs, un tournoi à élimination directe impitoyable réunissant 206 des meilleurs joueurs mondiaux pour une planche des prix de $2 millions, à la cadence de 90'+30' +30''; s'il y a égalité au terme de la confrontation aller-retour, le départage se faisant selon les étapes suivantes: parties rapides 15'+10''; blitz lent 10'+10''; blitz 5'+3'', blitz ultrarapide 3'+2'' et enfin, si l'égalité persiste, un armageddon avec 4' pour les Blancs et l'enchère la plus basse choisie par les Noirs +2'' par coup. Un spectacle haletant, mais controversé dans la mesure où il qualifie 3 joueurs sur 8 pour le Tournoi des Candidats, qui est un véritable championnat à cadence lente, un format qui n'a donc rien à voir avec ce que propose la Coupe du Monde où 70% des matches se décident dans les tie-breaks au format rapide/blitz.... Javokhir Sindarov, 19 ans (N°16 sur la liste de départ avec ses 2721 Elo), devient le plus jeune champion de l'histoire, battant Wei Yi (n°7, 2754 Elo) 1½-½ en tie-break rapide après deux nulles classiques. Andrey Esipenko (n°27, 2693 Elo) complète le podium en écrasant Nodirbek Yakubboev (n°28, 2689 Elo) 2-0 dans la section classique.
